  2. Trouble ?

  4. If you have a CM11A :
  5. If you can't get it to communicate on first attempt, or if it WAS working and now it doesn't :  see the next chapter...

  7. Is the serial connection solid?
  8. Are the XTension communications settings right?  (see Preferences)
  9.  
  10. Are two or more things conflicting with each other?
  11.      Are you trying to use the serial port which AppleTalk is using ?
  12.  
  13. Are you missing X-10 bus events?
  14.      Can you send a X-10 command from an X-10 wireless or
  15.        wall switch?  Does it do what it's supposed to but you
  16.        don't see the event on the XTension Log Window ?
  17.      If not, then the signal strength of the X-10 module may 
  18.        be weak or electrical noise may be affecting the signals.

  20. Are commands getting through?
  21.      Can you turn on/off a light?
  22.      If so, it says a lot about the setup of XTension and the
  23.      controller and the cable...
  24.  
  25.      If not, try putting the lamp or the interface into a different
  26.      wall socket and try again.  If it works some places but not
  27.      others, then you may need a signal coupler/amplifier
  28.      as seen in the home automation catalogs.

  30. Things used to work but don't now...
  31.      IF you have had a Mac system failure or something like it:
  32.      Take the XTension Preferences out of your System Folder.
  33.      (This was an old remedy, it may no longer be valid with 1.7)
  34.  
  35.     IF nothing has happened with the Mac, then it is likely that
  36.     something has happened to your home wiring or something
  37.     new has been plugged in which is now blocking your powerline 
  38.     signals.
